The History of Brandenburg

Authors note: This is my narrative on a 12 year old kid who  lives in Germany. This is my first narrative this year. Everything in a different color is something about Germany. I hope you like it!

Monday
"Mother!! Why didn't you wake me up?!" I shouted as I sprint down the stairs
"I thought you were already awake!!" She yelled back as she set my breakfast down on the table. I sit down and scarf down my breakfast of rolls, eggs, and some juice.
"Alexander you need to start waking up by yourself, you 12 years old!" Mother said.
I finish chewing and said " I have been, but this time I didn't. Just because in 12 doesn’t mean I need to wake up earlier." I check the time. 7:50am, I have some time. I run up stairs and put on some clothes. Then I run into the bathroom to brush my teeth. Then I grab my backpack and run back down stairs.
"Love you mom!" I yell
"Love you too!" she yells back as I run outside. It's a good thing my school is right next door. I sprint across the street and into the school. I get in to my first class room seconds before the bell rings. First class Latin. " Okay class it seems everyone is here today we are going to learn about the history of…" The teacher says. I wasn't listening to what he said because he told us exactly what we have to do today last class. We had to do a project on something that is related to Latin. I finished mine last class so I had nothing to do. I mostly just watched everyone else. After a while the teacher told us to clean up and get ready for our next class. The bell rang and I was off to German class. I walk in and sit down. When everyone was in the room the teacher told us to resume our projects on the history of Germany. I got on a computer and started typing. After about 30 minutes we had to finish up and get ready for our next class. I'm walking down the hall to the next boring class, English. I walk in and am told to sit down and resume my project. My project is on a state in America called Wyoming. I finish that off in about 20 minutes and start to read a book. Before I knew it, it was time to go to my next class. The Rest of the day was mostly a blur, it’s the same thing every day. All boring. Until I was walking to my last class  of the day Music. I was walking down the hallway when a random kid runs straight into me.
"Hey, watch it" The kid exclaimed as I fall to the ground
"ouch" I exclaim as I hit the ground. The kid reaches down and helps me up.
"sorry about that I was running a little late to my class" he says as he helps me up. "well got to go." and he runs down the hall. I was still hurting a little but I made it to my final class on time.
After school I get home and sit on the couch to watch T.V. and end up falling asleep. When I wake up its time for dinner. Dinner was Bread, some cold meat and milk. It was just me and my mom at the table because my dad was on a business trip somewhere. After dinner I sit back down and watch T.V. again. I end up falling asleep again.
Tuesday
Beep, beep, beep!!! My alarm wakes me up. I hit the snooze button and it stops.
"7:00 am, I finally woke up when I wanted to." I say to myself. I walk down stairs and start making breakfast for myself. Rolls and Eggs, my usual. I just finished making my eggs when my mom comes down.
"You finally did it!" Mom says Happily
"Finally did what?" I ask
"You finally woke up early!"
"Yes I did." I say starting to eat. I finish eating and go get ready. I run up stairs and get dressed. Then I go and brush my teeth. Run down stairs with my backpack on and ready to go.
"Love you Mom!" I yell
"Love you, too!" she yells back .
I run outside and right up to the school. I walk inside and go straight to my locker and put my stuff away. Then I walk over to my First class, Biology. When I get to the classroom I get to my desk and sit down. When everyone gets in the room the class starts. When we find out what we are doing today I am not excited.
" Today, class, we are going to dissect a frog." The teacher tells us. We all sit there staring at him, not believing him. We start believing him when he brings out the frogs. We all get our frogs and start dissecting them. After around 30 minutes he collects our frogs and tells us to go wash our hands even though we had gloves on. When we were all done washing our hands its time for the next class. I start walking down to my next class, Physics. When I get there the class had already started so I sit down and try to get caught up on whatever the teacher is talking about. By the end of class I still don’t know what he was talking about but it doesn't matter because it's over. I walk out of the classroom and to my next class, English. Most of English was a blur the same thing ever time. Same with Latin. Mathematics wasn't any better. After Math I went home all I had left were free classes. When I walk into the house I sit down and start watching T.V. Mom came home around 5:30 just in time for dinner. For dinner we had Bread, sausage, and milk. After dinner I start watching T.V. up in my room and ended up falling asleep.
Wednesday
BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! There goes my alarm but I feel like I cant get up. I stand up using most of my morning energy and I feel horrible. I'm sick. I walk down stairs and tell my mom and she says "Maybe you can go later."
"I'll try" I Respond. After about two hours I start to feel a little better. I eat something and take my temperature. 99.3 Degrees, I'll be okay. I tell my mom I'm going to school and she tells me its fine. I get dressed and brush my teeth and head to school, again. I walk across the street and into the school's main office to get my late slip. I walk to my third class, which is Politics - Economy. I walk in and give my teacher the late slip and walk to my desk. Class goes by slowly but I manage to get through it. When class is over I realize I have no idea what just happened. I walk down to my fourth class, Math.
"Math will be good; I already know most of it." I think to myself. I walk in and take my seat and we all get a test. The test took the entire time so after the test we go to our next class. I walk down the hall to Latin. The rest of the day was a blur I don’t remember much at all. When I get home I go back to sleep and when I wake up its time for dinner. After dinner I go up to my room and sleep.
Thursday
I wake up before my alarm and still feel bad. I tell my mom I'm not going to school today and go back to sleep. When I wake up again it’s a little after 12:00pm I walk down stairs and make a little snack. I sit down a start watching T.V. and end up dozing off. I wake up to the sound of a door slamming; mom was home. She tells me that she was a little late because she was getting medicine for me and after I take it I feel much better. After dinner I fell asleep on the couch again, ready to go to school tomorrow .
Friday
I wake up feeling a ton better and happy. I Get out of bed and walk down stairs and make myself breakfast. I'm almost done eating when mom comes down.
"Wow, you got up early today!" She says with a smile.
" I am just as surprised as you are!" I say. I put my plate away and run upstairs to get ready for school. I get dressed, brush my teeth, and grab my stuff.
"Love you mom" I yell
"Love you too." she responds. I dash across the street, almost getting hit by a car. I get into school and get to my first class early. To start the day I get to learn more about frogs and what's inside. Another Gross class period I think as I leave my classroom. I go to my instrument class and get my trumpet ready to play this class. We all play really good but before we can finish the class its time to go. I put my trumpet away and get to my next class on time in chemistry we learn what chemicals not to mix…..ever. Of course someone mixed them and we all had to evacuate from the classroom. Class was canceled then and I decided to start heading to my next class, music. We start learning more about the instruments we play. That was a ton of fun. Then I had to go to English class. It was the same thing everyday in English learn a little bit, then we have to do a project. Same thing with German class. After both of the classes I get to go home. I walk inside and my mom is home and she made me a snack. I sat down with my snack and watched T.V. until dinner. Then I went up to my room and watched T.V. until I fell asleep.
Saturday
I woke up around 8:30 and decided to get up. Its a little early for me but I don't want to go back to sleep. I walk down the stairs and sit down on the couch and turn on T.V. After around 5 minutes I decided to do something else. I run upstairs and grab a book off my dresser and run back down stairs. I start reading my book and kept reading until around 9:30. I realised i finished my book then and put it back up in my room. I then remember that I have a Ice Hockey game today. I looked at my schedule and saw that my game was at ten'o'clock. I sprint up the stairs and yell to my mom "Wake up, I have a hockey game today!"

"I know," she yells back. By the time she gets out of her room I'm ready and walking out the door.

"Lets go," I yell. she runs down the stairs and out the door  after me. We get in the car and we're off. We get to the game around 9:50 and I run inside while she finds a place to park. When i get inside my coach sees me and tells me to get over by the team. I sit down on the bench and wait for the game to start. In the mean time i get over by my friends and start talking to them.

"Do you think we can win against them?" One of my friends asks.

"I don't think so," I say, "their undefeated." Then the buzzer goes off and the game starts. The game when pretty slow because I didn't play for a while. After about 45 minutes I get to play. I was doing really good but, before I knew it, the game was over and we ended up losing.

"Well, that was fun," I say.

"But, we lost," my friend reminds me.

"So, it was still fun, right?" I ask my team. They all look at me and nod heir heads. After that it was time to leave. my mom was waiting for me out front. When I get in the car and my mom says

" You played really good."

"Thanks," I respond. The ride home was short and when I get inside I walk up to my room and take a nap. When I wake up my mom was calling me down for dinner. After dinner I go back up into my room and go back to sleep.
Sunday
I Woke up around 8:00 and went down stairs to watch some T.V. After a while mom woke up and made me some Breakfast.
"Alexander, time for breakfast," Mom said.

"Okay, I'll be up in a minute," I said. I get up from the couch and walk over to the table. I ate my Breakfast in a few minutes and went back to watch TV. I ended up falling asleep. When I woke up it was around 1:00 so I got up and went up to my room. I got dressed and went back down stairs to go outside. I didn't know what to so I got up on my Bike and went for a bike ride. My neighbourhood is pretty small so it is fun to bike around. I got back to the house and it was 2:30. I was amazed, I was biking for and hour and a half! I sat down on the couch and started watching TV. Mom got home from work around 6:00 and she made dinner for us. After dinner I went up to my room and watched TV until i fell asleep for school the next day.

Our Sun - The Study of a Star

Authors note: This is my project on The Sun and what it does. It is an essay and its my first essay of the year, so if you have any suggestions on how to make my next one better leave a comment. Enjoy!

Many people think that the world will end when the sun dies or in 2012 but in reality the world will end when the sun turns into a Red Giant. When the sun turns into a red Giant it will increase in size and mass  and that will affect the Earth a lot since we are close to the sun.  The sun will get so big it will burn up our planet and any planets closer to the sun than us.  The heat will also have an affect, it will get a lot hotter than is ever was before. Then the earth will start to heat up and start having a lot warmer weather.

When the Sun turns into a Red Giant it will increase in size to about 10-100 times the current size. It's current size is 11,990 Times the Earths surface area. It will completely absorb Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars! Its Mass will also grow by about 10-100 times the amount it is now. It's current mass is 333,000 times Earths Mass! The Sun won't only burn up our planet but completely obliterate it!

The Sun will also heat up from around 1,000,000 K to about 100,000,000 K! (Kelvin is a different way to measure temperature.) This will burn up everything on the planet, including us! The Earth will start to burn up from the outside, to the core and then nothing. The sun will then continue to heat up until it starts to run out of hydrogen to fuse and it will turn into a White Dwarf. After that the sun will be nothing and the solar system will be dead.

The Sun turning in to a Red Giant is an obstacle that we can't avoid and it will lead to the end of the world. Now we can all stop thinking that the world is going to end so soon, like next year, Because the sun won't turn into a Red Giant for about 3.5 to 5.5 Billion years. The Sun will be the only thing causing the world to end.

Scientific Process Project

Authors Note: This is my Scientific Process Project. You might have been apart of it, this is the project we tried to scare people. Enjoy our results.

Problem: Does screaming effect your heart rate more than jumping when scared?

Hypothesis: Screaming takes a lot of energy and if all you do is jump backward when you get scared most of the energy created by your heart is stored and increases your heart rate dramatically, but when you scream you release most of that stored energy so that would still increase your heart rate but less than if you jumped.

Experiment
Materials
-       Scary noise of some sort
-       3 or more masks
-       Blindfold
-       Different room
-       Rolling chair
-       Clean-up materials

Procedure
1.    Put blindfold on
2.    Roll chair to different room
3.    Test heart rate
4.    Scare the test subject
5.    Test heart rate
6.    Repeat with different test subject at least two times
7.    Clean up

Variables

CV – The scare, the scream, the jumps, heart rate tests
IV – how test subjects react, how test subjects heart rate is
DV – scream or jump
Control – the average persons heart rate

Observation

Kendall
Going to chair – 56 per minute
Going into room – 60 per minute
Scary sound – 54 per minute
SCARE – 62 per minute

Jeremy
Going to chair -  62 per minute
Going into room – 68 per minute
Scary sound – 64 per minute
SCARE –68 per minute

Michael
Gong to chair- 84 per minute
Going into room – 66 per minute
Scary sound – 100 per minute
SCARE –  78 per minute

Alex G
Going to chair – 84 per minute
Going into room – 68 per minute
Scary noise – 90 per minutes
SCARE – 70 per minute

Kevin D
Going to chair – 72 per minute
Going into room – 56 per minute
Scary noise – 56 per minute
SCARE – 70 per minute

Carson
Going to chair- 60 per minute
Going into room- 42 per minute
Scary noise- 46 per minute
SCARE- 60 per minute

Sam S.
Going to chair – 58 per minute
Going into room – 48 per minute
Scary noise –64 per minute
SCARE – 76 per minute

Conclusion
The people who screamed had a slower heart rate than the people who jumped instead, this is because screaming gives of a lot of energy so your heart rate will fall because all the energy you gave your heart by being scared cased it to speed up and when you screamed you released most, all, or even more than all the energy you gained, this causes you to lose the speed of your heart rate. If you didn’t scream you kept all the energy in side and your heart never slowed down but it speed up instead.

How Baseball Started

Authors note: This is my PowerPoint on how Baseball started. I really like baseball so I decided to do a project on it. Enjoy!

Space junk - The Falling Satellite

Authors note: This is my project on orbits and satellites. I thought it would be a cool subject to research. I hope you like.

Satellites orbit the earth, we all know that, but how and what causes them to fall? How do they get up into space anyway? Some satellites fall due to decay and lack of maintenance, but there are many other reasons satellites fall. Sometimes orbits decay and satellites can’t stay up in space anymore, maybe the satellite was orbiting too low or too high and was pushed back to earth or lost in space.

There are tons of satellites orbiting earth, but what is an orbit and how do objects stay in orbit? An orbit is when an object, like a meteor, shoots past an object with a much larger mass, like a planet, and is pulled in to the planet’s atmosphere, and instead of continuing on it starts to move around the planet using it own momentum. This is caused because of the perfect balance between the forward motion of a body and the pull of gravity from another body in space. The forward motion of the orbiting object will keep it orbiting from millions of years.

Satellites start an orbit different than a moon, and it stays in orbit for a different reason.  Satellites get up into space using a rocket and is than dropped off in one exact spot and it starts drifting off until the suction of space and the gravity of earth keep it moving around earth for as long as it needs or its orbit decays or something like that. That’s how a low earth altitude satellite starts an orbit, a high earth altitude starts the same way but doesn’t orbit it stays in one exact spot, and can last millions of years.

We all know that there are a lot of satellites orbiting earth, but how many are there? Right now there are over 3,000 satellites orbiting around earth each with a different reason, but there are over 8,000 man-made objects orbiting earth. There are so many satellites it may be hard to believe but there has been only one collision of satellites in 1996. A French satellite collided with debris from a satellite they launched. If any collisions happen, they happen in low earth altitude earth orbits. In High earth altitude orbits satellites orbit one spot and stay in that spot, so it is very unlikely for a collision in high earth orbits.

Orbits can be destroyed but how does it happen? It’s called orbital decay and there are three different forms of it: gravitational radiation, tidal effects and atmospheric drag. Gravitational Radiation happens when two objects orbit each other the combined effect of the space time curvature of the moving objects produces gravitational waves which carry away orbital energy.  Tidal effects happen when an object is large enough to cause a tidal bulge on the body it is orbiting this takes momentum from the orbiting object thus lowering the object until frictional effects come into play. Atmospheric drag happens during solar maxima (The greatest solar activity of the solar cycle) this causes drag up, to the earth's atmosphere, to a hundred kilometers higher that the solar minima, this causes satellites to be lower than normal so they may start descend back to earth.

Earth has so many satellites and other stuff orbiting earth and some of it is just junk from satellites. We are running out of space in space. Some of the satellites aren't even in use. Every new satellite we send into space increases chances of satellites colliding. Our atmosphere is now so crowded we can’t afford to send anything else into space, it too risky now.  We should just hope nothing will go wrong before we are ready.

Vex Robotics

Two years ago in fifth grade I was in a vex robotics club and we made three robots to take part in a competition at WCTC.
The object of the game was to take as many balls from the middle of the court and move them up a ramp and onto your side, we had two robots doing this. We also had a robot with an arm to grab the most important thing of the game, the Jack. The game was called High Jacked. At the start it sounded kind of boring but I decided to do it anyway, as it turns outmost of the people there I knew witch made it a lot more fun. It took about three weeks to finish all the planning and building but in the end it was worth it. One contest, one chance, 36 schools, it was the biggest moment of our robot lives. We played hard and our third game the worst thing ever happened, our robot broke down. We were rushing around like crazy. To find the right piece and in the end we had to cut a piece in half.  The robot was working perfectly in about 5 minutes. In the end we came in Fourth place overall we were so happy. It is my favorite memory of my old school I have.

Baseball

One of the sports I play is Baseball. I love to play mostly because I always play my favorite position, Catcher.
My last season we failed pretty badly, we won 2 out of 15 games, the sad part is that it was against the same team. We tried our best, like in one game when we were winning by 3 points and all of a sudden we switched pitchers, for no reason. That turned out to lead to at least 7-8 runs walked in by the new pitcher, all we could do is hope for three outs, and we got them after around 10 minutes. So, we lost that game by 5 points and we were so close, too. One of my favorite memories was when i stopped a home run. We were already losing but we had a chance to catch up if they didn't get one more point. There were 2 outs, the boy hit it in the infield to the third baseman. The third baseman got it and threw it to first and that's when it happened, he missed. The runner was running to second which the first baseman overthrew the the second baseman. the runners running to third with again the ball was overthrown that's when i knew it was all up to me. I quickly got ready for the ball to  get thrown to me, he threw it to me, perfectly. The ball flew straight over the runners head and right into my glove. I quickly got down and tagged him right in the chest and, it was over, i got the last out and the game was over and we won the game. That is why my favorite sport is baseball.

Thank you for reading I hope you enjoyed!

The First Day of School

The first day of school was a lot of fun even though most of it was learning all of the rules. I had band first and we talked about what we are going to throughout the year and learned all of the rules. After band I had gym and in gym we got our gym lockers and talked about the rules in there after that we talked about what we are going to learn about in heath, afterward we played basketball. For my Third period class i had Spanish which was all review and rule; like usual. Then I went to my Fourth period class which was Academy 21, we made our accounts in Blogger and Google and then it was time for lunch. After lunch I went to to robotics and we played a game in the game we had to sort objects in order of importance if you were stranded in a blizzard 20 miles from  the nearest town. After Robotics I went to Resource, my final class of the day, this is where we learned about the new program One Note. The First day was awesome the second day was just as good!
